History of the Church Church Elders & Deacons
Church of the Burning Fire, Zachary, Louisiana

Church History

In 1985, God moved upon the hearts of then Brother Ernest and Sister Freida Morris to start a Bible study in their home with a small group of people. This small group began to grow whereupon it became necessary for them to move the Bible study out of their home to accommodate those attending. They rented a small building on Highway 19 that became affectionately known as, "the pink building."

Brother Morris realized the need for the security of the saints and accepted the title of Pastor, and this small assembly became known as "Rollins Road Assembly." Over the next several years, other phases of ministry were birthed as God continued to expand this vibrant ministry, adding families with children of all ages. Teen Triumph and Children's Church were the first ministries to form.

In 1990, God moved and opened a door for the church to purchase a building--a thrice-failed daycare facility--to house its congregants. While no daycare was able to thrive there, God brought the building from tragedy to triumph and used it to bring in many children from the surrounding neighborhoods to hear the Good News of the Savior, Jesus Christ. The church retained the name, Rollins Road Assembly, until God spoke to Pastor Morris one Sunday and told him to change it. The name was to be "Church of the Burning Fire" as God's word consumes (burns up the chaff), illuminates (directs our paths), and warms (comforts us with hope by faith in our Lord Jesus).

Throughout the years, leaders have been ordained, mission fields have been trod upon, and most importantly, souls have been saved! The church continues to focus on being an ark of safety for young people through Children's Ministry, Teen Ministry, Young Adults Ministry and several auxiliary ministries like, dance, drama, puppetry, and technology support. Under the leadership of Pastor Morris and Sister Freida, by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the church continues to thrive. Pastor Morris' witty, no-nonsense delivery of the uncompromised Word of God helps the young and old to know Jesus personally and intimately and to walk in His will for their lives.

Elders & Deacons

Church leadership sets the tone for spiritual growth in the local body of Christ. This is why the Apostle Paul admonished the appointment of elders in every church to be under-sheperd's of Christ's flock. Titus, chapter one, gives the criteria for the appointment of elders and also reveals why they are necessary. Verses six through nine read,

"If a man is blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of dissipation or insubordination. For a bishop must be blameless, as a steward of God, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, but hospitable, a lover of what is good, sober-minded, just, holy, self-controlled, holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict."

EldersElders are charged to exhort and convict, "for there are many insubordinate, both idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of dishonest gain." The Bible admonishes elders to rebuke these persons sharply so that they may be sound in the faith.

Our elder is appointed by Pastor Morris and is a qualified servant for this office. Our elder is Paul Bergeron.

"Likewise deacons must be reverent, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy for money, holding the mystery of the faith with a pure conscience." 1 Timothy 3:8-9.

The Scriptures further detail that a deacon should be the husband of one wife (who must be reverent, not a slanderer, temperate, and faithful in all things), who rules their children and their home well. 1 Timothy 3:11-12. Our deacons have good standing and great boldness in the faith. Our deacons are Eddie Guidry, Vincent Perry, Burnell Raymond and Lee Roy Bilberry (not pictured).
